BRYONY STROUD-WATSON - violin:
Graduated with a B.M. from the Hartt School of Music in 2000. She
received her M.M. in 2002 and in May 2003 an Artist Diploma from the
Conservatory of Music, Purchase College, SUNY.
She was the 2000 winner of the Emerson Quartet Competition and most recently winner of the 2002 Purchase Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition resulting in a performance of Alban Berg's Violinkonzert in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center in October 2003. In the summer of 2002 Bryony helped organize the Young Musician's Program while attending Kneisel Hall and performed extensively with the Anne Stern String Quartet.
Since settling in Yonkers, Bryony has pursued her love of chamber music and teaching. As a founding member of the Artemis Chamber Ensemble and a member of Ensemble Anura she has organized and performed concerts in venues throughout the region.
She is also a core member of the new music and puppet troupe, The Octopus Ensemble, based in lower Manhattan, which presents concerts of contemporary classical music with puppet and movement performers.
A lover of new music, in April 2004 Bryony performed the world premier of Dary John Mizelle's Metacontrasts for violin, clarinet and piano, and is currently working on his Violin Concerto to be performed in the next season.
Bryony has been teaching violin at the Rye Arts Center since 2001. She is a chamber music coach with the Norwalk Youth Symphony and teaches an after school string program in Croton, NY.
Through her teaching Bryony is fostering a dedicated young audience of chamber music lovers. |
